Scalable magnetic shielding coil array for magnetoencephalography
The rapid advancement of wearable magnetoencephalography (MEG) using optically pumped magnetometers (OPMs) has heightened the demand for high-performance magnetic shielding over large volumes. Here we present a magnetic shielding coil array that offers several key advantages, including modular scalability, high precision, and effective control over extended spatial regions. Simulations demonstrate that the coils can reduce the residual magnetic field within a 1 m × 1 m × 1 m volum e in a magnetically shielded room to below 1 nT—an order of magnitude lower than that achieved without active shielding. This system is currently under construction as a core component of our wearable OPM-MEG platform for cutting-edge neuroscience research.
