Design and analysis of a linear oscillating machine for compressor applications
Compared with rotary machines with crank-link mechanisms, the linear oscillating machine (LOM) provides an efficient and direct-drive solution for compressors. This paper aims to design and analyse a high-performance LOM for compressor applications. First, the key system design dimensions are initially determined. Subsequently, an E-shaped stator core combined with a dual mover structure with opposite polarities is adopted to enhance the machine thrust and power. Then, three-dimensional finite element analysis (FEA) is employed to conduct detailed simulations and analyses of the machine topology, no-load characteristics, thrust characteristics, and power, providing electromagnetic performance under different operating conditions. The analytical results demonstrate that the proposed design can achieve high thrust and high power.
