Osteoinductive/Osteoconductive & Bioactive Coatings for Implants
Global demand for more resistant, bioactive bone prostheses and implants that stimulate cell differentiation and reduce immune reactions has led to innovative and important improvements in the manufacturing and post-processing of these biomedical devices. Currently, coatings have become the main strategy for protecting these materials efficiently, maintaining biofunctional properties, optimizing osseointegration, corrosion resistance, and local immune response. This review aims to show recent advances in surface engineering, ceramic, polymeric, metallic, carbon, and multifunctional coatings. It analyzes the mechanisms of action, the most relevant deposition techniques, and current regulatory challenges.
