A Classical Review on Palitya chikitsa Mentioned in Sangraha Granth

Abstract We are living in an era of pollution, chemicals, irregular lifestyles, etc., which are significantly affecting hair health, leading to a decline in its natural color and quality. Additionally, stress – another major contributor to premature graying – is now a common aspect of daily life. Hence, more people are experiencing early graying of hair, which further leads to use of harmful chemical-based hair dyes. Many individuals have become reliant on synthetic products for hair coloring. Ayurvedic remedies and natural dyes offer a promising alternative as they are derived from plant-based ingredients and, with regular use, may help reverse the graying process. Palitya (premature graying) is described as a disease in Brihattrayi , Laghuttrayi , and other Sangraha Grantha with chikitsayogas that are cost-effective, easy to prepare, and use. This article aims to make a comprehensive collection of the formulations and hair packs mentioned for Palitya in Ayurveda texts ( Sangraha Grantha ). The compilations o palitya drugs described in seven Sangraha Grantha (such as – Chakradutta, Bhavprakash samhita, Yogratnakar, Bhaishajya Ratnavali, Sharangdhar, Vangsen , and Gadanigraha ) are collected, compiled, and presented in a scientific manner. A total of 46 formulation/references are collected from above-mentioned classical books. This article can be used for the management of Palitya with a vast range of formulations, and one can also design a new formulation by using the plants/ingredients depicted here.
