Estimated effects of onset of dementia on labor market
Onset of cognitive impairment was associated with statistically significant and meaningful declines in workforce participation and labor income and increased participation in social security programs in a representative sample of U.S. adults. As it is estimated that ∼half of those cases are due to AD, a treatment that delays transition from preclinical to prodromal disease could generate substantial economic value.
