Numerical analysis of ciliated transport of fluid in human organs
This study investigates ciliary transport of fluids and nutrients in the human body, a process central to several physiological functions. The governing continuity, momentum, energy, and concentration equations are first established in a fixed frame using curvilinear coordinates and then transformed to a moving frame through a linear mapping. After non-dimensionalization and application of the long-wavelength and low-Reynolds-number approximations, the system is reformulated in terms of a stream function for analytical tractability. Numerical solutions computed via NDSolve in mathematica (a built-in numerical differential equation solver to integrate the system) yield the velocity field, pressure gradient, pressure rise, and streamline patterns. The results reveal the influence of ciliary motion on fluid transport efficiency, offering deeper physical insight into biological pumping mechanisms and aiding the modeling of physiological flows.
