Construction and Application Properties of Aluminum Particles With Milli‐Nano Structures

ABSTRACT Superhydrophobic coatings are often subject to the “pigment shedding” phenomenon due to their high pigment volume concentration, resulting in poor surface stability and making it difficult to achieve industrial applications. In this study, millimeter sized aluminum particles were etched with a mixture of water, hydrochloric acid, and hydrofluoric acid to construct particles with second‐order milli‐nano structures. The obtained particles were modified with FDTS and then adhered to the surface of AB adhesive film, constructing a superhydrophobic coating with good physical and mechanical properties. The coating had excellent hydrophobicity, with both static and dynamic water contact angles around 153°. Thanks to the large overall size of the aluminum particles, there was an excellent adhesive effect between the resin and the particles, which endowed the coating with good physical and mechanical properties. The test results showed that the coating had a flexibility of 2 mm and an impact strength of 15 kg·cm, and the coating still showed superhydrophobic properties after 72 h of accelerated aging test. This research provides a feasible solution for improving the surface stability of superhydrophobic coatings, laying a solid foundation for their practical application.
