Investigation of Stoneley Waves in Initially Stressed Doubly Porous Viscoelastic Media with Frictional Interfaces
This study investigates the propagation of Stoneley waves in a layered structure consisting of a transversely isotropic double-porous (TIDP) medium and isotropic double-porous viscoelastic (IDPV) rock medium. The interface between these two media is modeled as frictional, incorporating Coulomb frictional boundary conditions. The velocity equation has been derived in a closed-form expression for Stoneley wave propagation in the given structure. The real part of the equation represents the phase velocity while the imaginary part corresponds to the damping parameter of the Stoneley wave. The phase velocity and damping parameter have been studied with respect to variations in angular frequency. The study further examines the impact of viscoelasticity in the rock medium, interface friction, horizontal initial stress, and porosity parameter corresponding to both the upper TIDP layer and lower IDPV medium on phase velocity and damping with results shown in graphical form. These findings are particularly relevant to geophysical applications, such as reservoir characterization, subsurface fluid detection, and seismic wave analysis in faulted regions, where Stoneley waves can provide insights into fracture connectivity and permeability variations.
