Seismic performance of steel staggered truss framing structure under strong seismic effects

In order to promote the development of steel staggered truss framing (SSTF) structures in high-intensity seismic areas, the seismic performance analysis of SSTF structures under strong seismic effects is carried out in this paper. Six SSTF structural models with different truss arrangement forms and an ordinary steel frame structural model are established, with the same steel consumption. The seismic performance and seismic demand performance of each model under strong seismic effects are investigated, using the non-linear elastic–plastic dynamic time analysis method based on the energy balance principle, and then the yield damage modes and energy dissipation mechanisms of each structure are compared. The results show that: the SSTF structure with hybrid and pa-type trusses has better seismic performance compared with ordinary steel frame structures; the arrangement of vertical webs in trusses has less effect on the lateral resistance of the structure, while it is effective in damage recovery; the diagonal web in the truss is the key member for energy dissipation and vibration reduction, which can consume up to 98% of energy.
