Research on the degradation of bank protection works on mountain rivers
The paper presents the results of the research on the degradation of the shore defence on the Tazlaul Sarat River. Shore defence works operate in an environment where natural risk factors collaborate with anthropogenic ones. The degradation of the shore defences was mainly determined by hydrodynamic erosion. The flow of the June 2016 flood on the upper course of the Tazlaul Sarat river was 342 m3/s, being measured at the Lucacesti Hydrometric Station. On the section of the river that crosses the town of Bolatau there has been significant degradation of the works to fix the bank and protect the road adjacent to the river bed. The shore defence in this area was made of a retaining wall made of concrete with a height of 2-5 m. The bank defence work degradation was integrated into the process of morphological transformation of the riverbed through hydrodynamic erosion. The geometrical change of the bed caused the foundation of the shore defence to be uncovered and its stability lost. The degradation of the bank protection also determined the erosion of the DC 180A communal road over a cumulative length of 200 m in the locality of Bolatau.
