Active folates and choline in prenatal development: current recommendations and clinical implications
Adequate folate and choline supplementation during preconception and pregnancy is essential for optimal fetal development. Supplementation with active folates (5-MTHF) is particularly beneficial for women with MTHFR mutations, who may have difficulty converting folic acid into the active form. Additional research is necessary to determine optimal choline dosages and evaluate the long-term effects on cognitive development.
