Phlegmasia Cerulea Dolens as an Initial Presentation of Ovarian Cancer
Phlegmasia cerulea dolens (PCD) is a syndrome which is characterized by the presence of sudden severe pain, swelling, and purple or bluish discoloration of either upper or lower limbs. It is rare but can be often fatal form of venous thromboembolism and may result in venous gangrene, pulmonary embolism, shock, and death. We report an elderly female who had PCD as an initial presentation of highly suspected ovarian cancer. To date, this is the first case report of PCD as an initial presentation of ovarian cancer we could find in medical literature. Our key clinical message is to report the association of ovarian cancer with PCD.
