Beyond the Bridge: Leveraging Carbon Capture for Scalable and Sustainable Hydrogen Production

This paper aims at investigating the key contribution of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) in blue hydrogen (H2) generation, identifying it as a vital transitional fuel in the move to a clean energy economy. An evaluation of the feasibility and environmental impacts of blue H2 is carried out by analyzing the current CCS technologies integrated with the steam methane reforming process. By conducting a comparative analysis alongside international case studies, this research underscores the economic and ecological advantages of blue H2. Additionally, this paper assesses the impact of government policies and technological innovations on the long-term viability of green hydrogen. The analysis reveals that CCS efficiently addresses the carbon footprint of blue H2 production, providing a scalable solution for hydrogen adoption until green hydrogen technologies become economically and technologically mature. The study ends by presenting strategic recommendations for stakeholders to capitalize on CCS in hydrogen production, enabling a seamless transition in the global hydrogen economy.
