AI-Generated Art Perception: A Population Study
Abstract Artificial intelligence (AI) is making major advances and challenging human creativity. In this population study conducted in Finland, we analyzed participants’ (n = 696) reactions to AI art using experimental and longitudinal design. The experimental part of the study showed that AI-art anxiety, AI-art enthusiasm and AI-art attitudes were explained by participants’ orientation toward technology, usage of AI technologies, sociodemographic background and interest in fine arts. The longitudinal part of the analysis showed that participants were more positive about AI creating art with humans if they had an orientation toward technology and at least a bachelor’s degree. Our findings indicate that people have mixed feelings about AI creating art independently.
