Peer review Robust CMB B-mode analysis with Needlet-ILC and Simulation-Based Inference Susanna Azzoni Princeton
This report provides a rigorous variational consistency assessment of the manuscript “Robust CMB B-mode analysis with Needlet-ILC and simulation-based inference”. The analysis demonstrates that the proposed CMB pipeline is not derived from a fundamental field-theoretic framework and relies entirely on phenomenological parametrizations, foreground modeling assumptions, and simulation-driven priors. No variational closure, generative operator, or self-consistent tensor sector is presented. In contrast, the Universal Ψ Equation offers a closed variational structure in which metric properties, tensor modes, and spectral coefficients emerge without external parameters. A direct comparison shows that the NILC–based B-mode analyses cannot provide physically meaningful constraints on primordial tensors, as their statistical outputs are conditional on a non-generative model. The conclusion is that the evaluated work lacks foundational physical content and cannot be considered a theory-driven contribution. This report formalizes the rejection based on structural incompleteness and provides the corresponding variational criteria (Appendix D) for future theoretical consistency checks.
