Design of a Novel Micro-Ring Laser for Low-Power All-Optical Spiking Neural Networks

We present a compact two-section micro-ring laser design for all-optical spiking neurons. Simulations show leaky-integrate-and-fire dynamics with optical input energies below 1 fJ and energy consumption near 1 pJ per spike. Its small footprint makes it a promising candidate for high-density, lowpower photonic spiking neural networks.

Abstract

We present a compact two-section micro-ring laser design for all-optical spiking neurons. Simulations show leaky-integrate-and-fire dynamics with optical input energies below 1 fJ and energy consumption near 1 pJ per spike. Its small footprint makes it a promising candidate for high-density, lowpower photonic spiking neural networks.
