Framework for evaluating crack rating of railway tunnel lining based on fuzzy sets theory and engineering-oriented GUI System

The assessment of the condition rating of cracks in railway tunnels is a crucial part of the tunnel maintenance process. This assessment is closely linked to physical parameters, spatial distribution, and crack characteristics. In this paper, a new model is proposed, which is called the Condition Rating Model for Crack in Tunnel Structure (CRMSC). The CRMSC is based on a synthesis of relevant manuals and the fuzzy sets theory (FST). It serves as a decision-making tool for rating cracks in tunnels after detection and monitoring work has been completed in the field. The outputs of this model can then be used as guides and suggestions for subsequent maintenance design. Additionally, this research has developed a fuzzy-logic-based assessment method presented in a graphical user interface (GUI) format to reduce calculation time and provide an easy-to-use environment for assessors. This system facilitates the condition assessment of cracks in tunnels.
