The Book Containing the Triangulation with One Meaning by Mohammed bin Abdulwali bin Abi Mohammed bin Khawlan Al-Hanbali Al-Baali: Studying and Investigating
This current research aims to study and investigate the book titled: “The Triangle with One Meaning”, by Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wali Ibn Abi Muhammad Ibn Khawlan al-Hanbali al-Ba’li (a study and investigation). It is divided into two main parts: the first one includes an introduction to the author, confirmation of the book’s attribution, a description of the three manuscripts, and the methodology of the investigating process. The second section comprises the investigated text, along with the researcher’s annotations on some passages in the footnotes. The study concludes several important findings, most notably that the book of “The Triangle with One Meaning” is attributed to Ibn Abd al-Wali Ibn Khawlan and not to Ibn Abi al-Fath, based on the precious manuscript’s date and the improbability of the scribes making a mistake in his name, as well as the evidence in the book’s introduction. Additionally, the research found that Ibn Khawlan possessed a significant level of credibility and linguistic knowledge, especially in lexicography, as evidenced by his documentation of names for each piece of information cited from Ibn Malik and others. This research recommends studying the reasons behind the agreement in meaning of the triangle words, as the norm is for them to differ, and agreement warrants further investigation. Furthermore, since this research uncovered two unique manuscripts that Suleiman al-Ayed did not examine, it recommends conducting a comparative study between the findings of this research and that previously made by al-Ayed to complete the cumulative research process.
