Ileal Perforation in a Child Following a Dog Bite: A Case Report and Review of Literature
Abstract Dog bite injuries are common in developing countries. The reported cases are mostly children attacked by stray dogs, especially in developing countries. Although incidences of abdominal visceral injury are rare, a few cases have been reported. Dog bites cause not only physical pain but also psychological distress and carry the risk of rabies, which is a highly fatal disease. In addition to managing the injuries, postexposure prophylactic therapy for the rabies is necessary. This report presents the case of a child who sustained dog bite injuries over the anterior abdominal wall leading to intestinal perforation.
