Methylglyoxal potentiates palmitic acid-induced endothelial dysfunction and atherogenesis in human endothelial cells
MGO dose-dependently exacerbated the harmful effects of PA on HUVECs through increased inflammatory responses, impaired angiogenesis, and induction of nitrosative stress. Additionally, high concentrations of MGO altered the expression of genes related to lipid metabolism, including LPL and LP(a). Overall, the results indicate that MGO and PA may play a synergistic role in the occurrence of inflammation, lipid and angiogenesis disorders, and endothelial damage associated with CVDs.
