These figures use their wisdom to guide thecommunity through reconciliation and consensus-building processes. Tools such as collaborativediscussions and symbolic sanctions like oath-taking resolved conflicts and strengthened socialbonds, ensuring that resolutions aligned with communal values and promoted unity. Unlike formal legal systems that prioritised punishment and legal formalities, traditionalmethods in Okitipupa emphasised healing, reconciliation, and addressing the root causes ofdiscord. The study revealed a deep connection between these practices and the broader socialfabric, showing their adaptability in navigating complex social dynamics. However, thesetraditional systems faced increasing challenges from external legal pressures and theencroachment of modern legal institutions. To address these challenges, the study argued for a synergy between traditional andformal legal systems, proposing an integrated approach to conflict resolution. This approachwould balance the strengths of both systems, preserving cultural heritage while ensuringcompliance with modern legal standards.
