RENEWED CALLS FOR ENHANCED SECURITY MEASURES ACROSS NIGERIA: THE PROFOUND CHALLENGE OF INCESSANT GRUESOME MURDER AND KILLINGS OF PROMINENT CITIZENS.
This study investigates the renewed calls for enhanced security measures in Nigeria, a nation plagued by insecurity and instability. The broad objective is to examine the underlying causes of insecurity and identify effective strategies for promoting peace and stability. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining qualitative and quantitative methods, with primary data collected through questionnaires and secondary data from existing literature. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze data with SPSS version 25. The study is anchored on Social Conflict Theory and Frustration-Aggression Hypothesis, using stratified random sampling technique and Yaro Yamane formula for sample size determination. The study reveals poverty, unemployment, and governance failures as significant contributors to insecurity. Recommendations include prioritising poverty reduction and job creation, promoting good governance, and enhancing citizen participation.
