Human Neurodevelopment and Social Outcomes/Neurodesenvolvimento Humano e Resultado Sociais

This article analyzes the neurobiological mechanisms linking social vulnerability—understood as adversity in the family environment and the scarcity of verbal stimuli—to child language development. Grounded in developmental neuroscience, the study discusses how the absence of quality interactions compromises physiological processes such as Long-Term Potentiation (LTP). The central hypothesis suggests that the lack of repetition of lexical stimuli prevents necessary synaptic strengthening, leading the nervous system to perform excessive neural pruning in linguistic areas. As a consequence, there is not only a delay in speech acquisition but also the formation of a fragile cognitive reserve, which may increase susceptibility to future cognitive decline. Thus, it is concluded that the environment acts as a biological modeler of neural structure, requiring an interdisciplinarity approach between linguistics and neuroscience for the promotion of neuroprotection strategies. Abstract

Keywords: Developmental neurobiology. Social vulnerability. Language acquisition. Neural plasticity. _____ Este artigo analisa os mecanismos neurobiológicos que vinculam a vulnerabilidade social compreendida como a adversidade no ambiente familiar e a escassez de estímulos verbais que implicam no desenvolvimento da linguagem infantil.
