The Art and Science of Mapping: A Technical Report on the Manual Cartographic Construction of a Large-Format A0 Map of Bangladesh

This technical paper documents the rigorous methodology employed by a team of six students in the manual construction of a top-quality, A0-format (36”×50” or, 3 feet by 4 feet 2 inches) map of Bangladesh. Done specifically for an academic project under the supervision of Zannatul Ferdous, the project successfully bridged contemporary geospatial principles with traditional drafting techniques. The team started with available, reliable data and projection, followed by the meticulous manual transfer and inking of features onto the final drafting surface. This report outlines the geodetic framework utilized, also details the manual production pipeline (including scale transfer, symbology execution, and manual lettering) and discusses the critical quality assurance protocols implemented to achieve an extremely low margin of error. The finished map is a reference-grade cartographic artifact that demonstrates mastery of both digital planning and manual precision.
