Idea Note (Observation Memo) No.1:Opening and Closing Declarations in Generative AI Dialogue — Poetic Boundaries and Their Effects on Switching and Initialization —
Abstract(English) This idea note (observation memo) records a small but recurring usage pattern observed in long-term interaction with generative AI models: short, poetic “opening” and “closing” declarations used to frame a conversational scene. Rather than issuing explicit task instructions (e.g., “Explain A”) or role assignments (e.g., “Act as X”), these declarations take the form of minimal sentences such as “The curtain rises,” “The door opens,” or “Night comes.” Placed at the beginning or the end of a dialogue segment, they seem to influence how responses “start up,” how characters come to the foreground, and how a given mode of interaction is brought to a close. Based on a small number of dialogue environments, this note provisionally describes (1) typical linguistic forms of such declarations, (2) their use as a ritualized “open → dialogue → close” flow, and (3) their relationship to two perspectives: structural pressure (how response patterns stabilize and differentiate over time) and narrative design (how characters and world-building are staged). The concrete sentences used in actual conversations are not disclosed; instead, generalized examples are provided to describe the observed functions. Similar opening and closing patterns were tested across multiple model families (GPT, Claude, Gemini) and appeared to support mode switching in a comparable way, though no systematic or quantitative evaluation has yet been conducted. This note is positioned as an initial observation memo and as a possible starting point for more systematic work on how poetic scene-framing declarations interact with prompt design and model behavior.
