Ring network model assesses functional connectivity in epilepsy surgery
Epilepsy arises from aberrant neuronal network connectivity. We developed a 50-module ring network model, each module including a pyramidal neuron, an interneuron, and an astrocyte, to simulate seizure-like activity and surgical intervention. By increasing pyramidal neuron connectivity to induce seizures and simulating removal of modules 20–30, we assessed functional connectivity changes using Pearson correlation coefficients. Post-surgery, the coefficient decreased from 0.57 to 0.13. This study demonstrates that module removal effectively regulates aberrant network dynamics, providing theoretical support for epilepsy surgery.
