Auditor's Razor: A professional heuristic for audit practice

This paper introduces Auditor’s Razor, a professional heuristic for auditing practice that cautions against attributing audit findings to deceit when misunderstanding provides a sufficient explanation. The heuristic is adapted from Hanlon’s Razor and is intended to improve auditor–auditee communication and reduce unnecessary escalation during audits.
