Reforming Research Assessment: A priority for the Union

This presentation outlines the European Union's priority for Reforming Research Assessment, primarily driven by the ERA Policy Agenda. Key initiatives include the Agreement on Reforming Research Assessment (published July 2022) and the establishment of the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA) (launched December 2022), which has over 800 signatories and 700 members. The ERA Policy Agenda 2025-2027 sets objectives for institutional change, measuring progress, and raising awareness to ultimately improve the quality and attractiveness of research careers. The European Commission supports these reforms through Horizon Europe funding and engagement in CoARA. Future plans include the ERA Act, planned for 2026 adoption, which aims to coordinate investments, improve conditions for researchers, and safeguard fundamental values.
