A Study on Integrated System Modeling and Simulation for Electric Vehicle Powertrain

As the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) continues to accelerate, the need for an integrated and system-level powertrain model has become increasingly important to ensure accurate performance evaluation. This paper introduces an integrated EV powertrain model in the MATLAB/SIMULINK environment using reference data from an actual EV. The proposed model incorporates the battery, LDC, electrical loads, inverter-motor system, vehicle dynamics model, and fast charger within a unified simulation structure. The paper provides a practical design guideline and enables users to examine detailed waveforms of key components and system-level interactions across the entire powertrain. The simulation results obtained from the integrated model confirm the operation of the LDC and the CC-CV charging characteristics of the fast charger. In addition, vehicle speed, torque, battery current and state of charge are evaluated under the WLTP driving cycle, validating the reliability and effectiveness of the proposed model. Based on these results, the integrated EV powertrain model provides a practical basis for analyzing cross-component effects, developing control strategies, and supporting early-stage prototyping in EV applications.
