Obturator Internus Muscle abscess : An unusual location

Obturator internal muscle (MOI) abscess is a rare situation in adults and is unlikely to be considered in the initial diagnosis. Delay in diagnosis can lead to locoregional extension, destruction of an adjacent joint, and the possibility of life-threatening sepsis. We report an original case of a spontaneous and isolated obturator internus abscess in a healthy adult treated on time by a non-invasive surgical method allowing a short hospital stay, better patient comfort and therapeutic success.

Abstract

Obturator internal muscle (MOI) abscess is a rare situation in adults and is unlikely to be considered in the initial diagnosis. Delay in diagnosis can lead to locoregional extension, destruction of an adjacent joint, and the possibility of life-threatening sepsis. We report an original case of a spontaneous and isolated obturator internus abscess in a healthy adult treated on time by a non-invasive surgical method allowing a short hospital stay, better patient comfort and therapeutic success.
