Diagnosis and treatment of achilles tendon rupture
Treatment of a recent Achilles tendon rupture is either conservative or surgical. Conservative treatment may involve static immobilisation or early functional rehabilitation. The surgical technique may be open or minimally invasive. Neglected and long-standing ruptures may require corrective surgery with a tendinoplasty. The best treatment for recent Achilles tendon ruptures is still under discussion, particularly since the advent of conservative-functional treatments and minimally invasive surgery techniques. We will present the different therapeutic options and the clinical reasoning used to choose the most appropriate treatment for a given patient. the most appropriate treatment for a given patient. This treatment will depend essentially on the patient's functional requirements and co-morbidities.
