Palliative treatment by tendon transfer for radial nerve palsy : A case report of 8 patients
Palliative treatment using tendon transfer is an integral part of the treatment plan for radial paralysis. It may be discussed in the first few weeks, if repair by suture or nerve graft is not feasible. It is mainly discussed secondarily, in cases where the injury is treated too late or after failure or incomplete recovery from nerve surgery. The aim of the treatment is to revive extension of the wrist, long fingers and thumb. In this study, we present our experience in the management of 8 patients with radial paralysis who benefited from revival of wrist and finger extension by tendon transfer. The patients were treated with a triple transfer, the functional results of which were very satisfactory in the majority of cases, with resumption of their daily activities.
