Comprehensive Assessment of Dental Caries Progression and Oral Health Outcomes among Adults in Ghaziabad District – A Cross-sectional Study
Aim: The study aims to assess caries progression, detect oral conditions resulting from untreated caries, and evaluate the activity and severity of caries lesions. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Ghaziabad district among adults aged 18 years or above. The study utilizes a closed-ended questionnaire and examines demographic variables, dental visit patterns, and various indices (pulpal involvement, ulceration, fistula, and abscess [PUFA], extrapolated carious surface increment [ECSI] index, decayed, missing, and filled teeth [DMFT]) to assess caries severity and clinical outcomes. A sample size of 450 participants was selected through simple random sampling. Results: The findings reveal a high prevalence of dental caries among adults, emphasizing the need for targeted interventions. Strong positive correlations between ECSI, PUFA, and decayed DMFT underscore the importance of regular dental check-ups and early preventive measures. The study recommends educational programs, early interventions, and improved access to affordable dental care services to address the identified oral health challenges. Conclusion: In conclusion, there is a strong correlation between ECSI, PUFA, and decayed DMFT, highlighting the importance of regular dental check-ups and preventive measures. Findings contribute to existing knowledge on dental health, informing public health interventions.
