Ethical considerations in contemporary data collection methods and social media addiction

This diploma thesis researches questionable aspects of social media platforms. In the theoretical part of the thesis, we focus on the specifics of data collection and utilization, including the ethical point of view, covering both challenges and considerations. We also look into social media addiction and its characteristics, and we discuss different techniques and practices employed by these companies in relation to user data and engagement-and the link between the two.The empirical section presents the results of a survey conducted to assess the level of social media addiction among the sample as well as the participants' perceptions of data ethics, more precisely data privacy, security, transparency, and sharing. The results are presented in charts and tables. As we gradually but surely become more impacted by these platforms, it is imperative that the ethical concerns surrounding different aspects of social media are thoroughly addressed.
