The Pronominal Identity Model The Role of Pronouns in Cognitive Processes and Pronominal Transformation Therapy
Abstract: The pronouns an individual uses (I, You, He/She/It, We, You [Plural], They) facilitate the transition from rational thought to hostile or emotional modes by influencing the individual’s cognitive and emotional state. The Pronominal Identity Model analyzes how an individual’s unmet psychological needs and expectations shifting toward the external world are structured through the pronouns they use. This theory aims to introduce a dynamic dimension to the existing literature on self-schemas by addressing the effects of pronominal reference points on the individual and others within the framework of needs and expectations.
