Development of a tour bus safety rating system to reduce accident disasters
Indonesia's tourism sector is currently trending upwards. It ranks among the 10th most popular tourist destinations in the world. One problem in this sector is the high number of tour bus accidents. These incidents are caused by unsafe vehicles, poor driver management, operator violations, and weak regulatory oversight. Government efforts such as the MitraDarat app and route inspections have been implemented. However, violations persist. This highlights the need for a better safety evaluation system. This safety system would encourage tour bus operators to meet safety standards and help regulators easily monitor the operational safety of tour buses. This study developed a rating-based safety assessment system for tour buses. The system encompasses three main components: vehicles, drivers, and company management. The methods used included analysis of national regulations, validation of indicators with public transportation safety regulators, and testing on five tour bus operators in Padang City. Statistical testing confirmed 78 valid and reliable indicators. This system can help operators conduct effective self-evaluations. This system will guide regulatory oversight, indirectly improving tour bus safety.
