THE DYNAMICS OF DOING BUSINESS IN THE 21ST CENTURY (AN ENTREPRENEUR'S PERSPECTIVE)

ABSTRACT Entrepreneurship remains a timeless engine of creativity, innovation, and wealth creation. Yet, the dynamics of doing business in the 21st century differ significantly from those of earlier centuries due to globalization, rapid technological change, shifting consumer behavior, and complex socio-economic challenges. This paper, drawing on both lived entrepreneurial experiences and secondary sources, explores the evolving dynamics of entrepreneurship in the present era, particularly within Nigeria’s challenging business climate. Using an autoethnographic approach, the study highlights customer behavior, credit sales, relationship management, and the persistence of entrepreneurial myths as crucial factors affecting business success. It also emphasizes resilience, innovation, and emotional intelligence as non-negotiable traits for entrepreneurs navigating today’s volatile environment. By integrating theory with practice, the paper provides recommendations for entrepreneurs to remain competitive, avoid pitfalls, and leverage opportunities presented by technology and globalization. The findings contribute to scholarship on small business sustainability in developing economies while offering practical insights for entrepreneurs worldwide. Keywords: Entrepreneurship, Customer Behavior, Innovation
