DOIs for Instruments at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin: Use Case Analysis

This document describes how persistent identifiers (PIDs) for instruments are implemented at the Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie (HZB). The analysis specifically focuses on PID integration workflows as well as on linking instrument PIDs to related research resources, such as datasets, journal articles, and publications. It therefore serves as a good practice example and blueprint for other institutions looking to integrate instrument PIDs into their research ecosystem. The use case analysis shows how DataCite DOIs can be used to persistently identify instruments. A second use case analysis also provided by PID4NFDI focuses on the integration of ePIC PIDs for instruments at the Sensor Management System (https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.17733707) and complements this resource.
