Intelligent geotechnical system of terrain movements: The case of rocky excavations on the Marrakech - Agadir highway (Morocco)
This paper illustrates a case of an intelligent geotechnical system used in some rock cuttings along the Marrakech-Agadir highway. The system comprises multiple connected components to provide observation of ground movements. The main components of this system are GPS sensors based on Global Navigation Satellite System technology, which give a millimetric precision for the track of ground deformations. In addition to cable extensometers, which measure crack propagation and its evolution over time, the system comprises also a unit of data acquisition and alert. Information such as values and thresholds: is recorded and transmitted from various sensors. All monitored data can be accessed remotely via a web visualization platform that permits continuous and real-time monitoring. This method is essential for early detection of ground movements and thus contributes to safety and sustainability of infrastructure.
