A Literature review on BIM Adoption: Foundations for assessing the Moroccan Construction Industry
Building Information Modeling (BIM) has gained worldwide recognition as a system that enhances effectiveness and cooperation in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry. However, the implementation of BIM within developing countries, such as Morocco, has been limited in terms of fully realized projects. The literature review presents an analysis of the previous literature on BIM adoption, the barriers experienced during its implementation, and the best practices in place around the world, in order to contextualize and transfer the findings towards Morocco's construction. The literature review identified the major challenges to BIM implementation, including insufficient training, high cost, and a weak regulatory environment, and provided examples of best practices in other jurisdictions. Following the review, we used it to develop a web-based survey that discusses the current state of BIM in the Moroccan AEC industry, including the barriers to BIM implementation, and the possibility of the growth of this emerging technology. The survey developed from the literature review can serve as an important tool for empirical data collection to inform future research and provide recommendations or guidelines for success.
