Evolution of Teacher Education Curriculum: Pre-Independence to NEP 2020

Abstract: The evolution of teacher education in India has been shaped by its socio-cultural, political, and educational transformations. This research paper traces the historical development of teacher education curriculum from the pre-independence period to the current reforms under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The paper critically examines the changing aims, structure, content, and pedagogical practices in teacher education, highlighting the shift from colonial influences to a more holistic, inclusive, and competency-based approach envisioned in NEP 2020.
