Material Characterization of Spring Steel for Prosthetic Applications

Spring steel is a material widely used in engineering because it has a good combination of mechanical properties, such as high strength, toughness, and the ability to withstand elastic deformation. In this study, spring steel material was characterized to evaluate its potential use in prosthetic applications, especially in components that require superior mechanical properties. Characterization was carried out through mechanical testing, including tensile tests using simulation and experimental methods. The test results showed a modulus elasticity value of 208 GPa with a yield strength value of 1240. The results indicate that spring steel has high tensile strength with a modulus elasticity suitable for supporting prosthetic loads. Thus, spring steel can be considered as an alternative material for prosthetic components, especially in parts that require a combination of strength, elasticity, and resistance to dynamic loads.
