Calculating The Energy Efficiency of a Building with Additional Shading Device

Building energy efficiency plays a crucial role in promoting sustainable development and enhancing visual comfort for users, particularly in tropical climates like Indonesia. This study evaluates the extent to which façade design optimization can contribute to improving building energy performance, particularly increasing the percentage of energy efficiency through EDGE Building App. Design strategies include adjusting the window-to-wall ratio (WWR) and implementing vertical and horizontal shading elements on the building façade. The energy performance evaluation was conducted using the EDGE App Building application, which combines energy efficiency analysis with comprehensive simulations of visual impacts and potential savings. Simulation results indicate that implementing façade interventions can increase energy efficiency from 4.31% under existing conditions to 36.23% after redesign. This study confirms that façade design optimization not only provides improved energy efficiency but also offers economic benefits through more stable operational cost management and supports investment sustainability in commercial property development.
