Review of Ken Fleischmann's Information and Human Values (2013)
Ken Fleischmann’s Information and Human Values (2013) is a concise yet conceptually rich contribution to the study of how human values intersect with information, technology, and society. The book argues convincingly that information systems are never value-neutral; instead, they embed, reflect, and reproduce human values at every stage from design to deployment and use. For someone like me, with a background in Information Technology and professional experience with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Fleischmann’s work provides a strong theoretical lens to understand how values influence technology used in national security, border control, identity management, and digital governance.
