A Study on the Automation Methodology of Robot Simulation for Deburring Process in Die-casting Products

Modern manufacturing industry faces the challenge of achieving both flexibility and efficiency in production processes. This is also a critical factor in the die-casting industry, which adopts a cell production system to enhance productivity through process independence and rapid changeover. However, the deburring process, a representative post-processing stage of diecasting products, still relies heavily on manual labor, leading to quality variations and poor working conditions. Therefore, introducing robot-based automation is required, yet its application remains limited due to increased teaching points, tool posture optimization, and collision avoidance issues caused by complex product geometries. To address these limitations, this study first conducted a simulation-based analysis to verify the feasibility of automated deburring processes. Second, a process simulation automation methodology was proposed to eliminate inefficiencies in process modeling and simulation. The proposed approach integrates an application programming interface (API) of a commercial robot simulation software, based on a standard input template with a path optimization algorithm, enabling automatic coordinate input and adaptive operation for various scenarios such as product changes and object position variations. As a result, the automated module reduced the total modeling and analysis time simulation and improved process efficiency.
