Purpose This study aims to examine the relationship between green entrepreneurial practices and green social performance (GSP). It also explores the mediating role of green innovation (GI) and moderating effect of green dynamic capability. Design/methodology/approach This study adopts a quantitative method, based on a sample size of 396 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) located in South India. Responses were gathered from decision-makers, entrepreneurs and higher end managers through structured questionnaires. The relationships among the constructs were analysed using structural equation modelling. Findings The results validate that green entrepreneurial practices tend to promote GI and boost GSP. This strengthens the components of green entrepreneurial practices that include sustainability strategies among the SMEs, as well as engagement with stakeholders and accountability on environmental issues. Originality/value This study presents a holistic GSP model for SMEs, comprising GI and dynamic capabilities. Using strategic entrepreneurship, the study aids SMEs to embrace sustainability and enhance social and environmental impact.
