Diurnal Noise in Superconducting Quantum Processors is Deterministic and Correctable Using Solar-Angular Position
VERSION 1.3 UPDATE: SPATIO-TEMPORAL MAPPING AND PREDICTIVE SCHEDULING This document is a major revision and extension of the previous work (V1.2, DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.17893323). This version formalizes the noise as a deterministic vector field and introduces predictive scheduling capabilities. Primary Advancement: Thermal Inertia and Spatial Mapping The primary change is the inclusion of the thermal inertia (phase lag, delta_k) parameter into the Solar-Hour Standard (HS°) model to account for the physical heat transfer delay in the cryostat environment. This refines the correction formula for each qubit k to: New Formula: Delta_phi_k(t) = -A_k * sin(2 * pi * HS(t) - delta_k) Key Technical Changes: Spatio-Temporal Mapping (Figure 1): The analysis now shows that the thermal lag (delta_k) is spatially non-uniform across the chip. Edge qubits exhibit a faster response to solar loading (delta_k approx 1.5 h) compared to center qubits (delta_k approx 2.5 h), confirming conductive thermal gradients. Advanced Correction Performance (Figure 2): Applying the delta_k-corrected model suppresses the diurnal frequency drift by a factor of 11.3x compared to the uncorrected baseline, eliminating significant residual errors left by the previous delta_k=0 model. Predictive Quantum Weather Protocol (Section 4): We introduce a scheduling framework that classifies operating times into Gold (18:00--06:00), Silver, and Bronze windows based on HS forecasting. This enables users to strategically schedule deep VQE or Quantum Error Correction (QEC) protocols during periods of naturally high fidelity. QEC Impact: The HS°-correction is shown to maintain the syndrome error rate below the critical threshold (p_th approx 0.5%) throughout the daytime cycle, effectively increasing the fault-tolerant processor uptime.
