In this shorter piece, Bruegel Senior Fellow Alicia García-Herrero looks into the EU’s difficulties in impose countervailing duties on electric vehicles from China as well as the Chinese response to the intended measures. Together, the two aspects point to a significantly changed context for EU-China relations, which only underscores the need for the EU to de-risk and present a strong industrial policy that will help secure the EU’s economic security and thereby also its position vis-à-vis global players such as China.
