Ergodic Semantics: Why the Fold Grips, But Not When
The empirical programme of this framework has produced strong evidence that meaningful order reliably emerges from initially disordered semantic configurations. Under Semantic Ricci Flow—the geometric dynamics that govern how semantic curvature evolves—almost all trajectories converge to a characteristic band of curvature values. This “0.8-signature” is not a metaphor for held tension; it appears as a measurable attractor of the flow, a fixed point toward which all paths tend. Yet the same experiments reveal an equally robust finding: the time at which any given trajectory enters this attractor band cannot be predicted from the macroscopic features of its initial state. The onset time τ fluctuates substantially even between runs that share identical parameters and differ only in microscopic details. The paradox can be stated succinctly:We can empirically demonstrate the existence and robustness of semantic emergence. We cannot construct a reliable predictor for its timing.
