Review on torque distribution algorithm of four hub-motor independent drive electric vehicle

The concept of safety, energy conservation, environmental protection and comfort is the theme of new energy vehicles. With the advantages of quick reaction, high efficiency, flexibility, and high space utilization, the four hub-motor independent drive electric vehicle (4MIDEV) has emerged as a key area for electric vehicle research. Through sensible torque distribution, it may enhance the ability of vehicles to save energy and increase their stability and comfort. High demands for motor torque distribution are made by its complex control system. The main area of research for 4MIDEV is the torque allocation algorithm, which is likewise a challenging issue that has to be solved. This paper summarizes recent cases of torque distribution control of 4MIDEV, including computational intelligence algorithms including the particle swarm optimization (PSO) and the genetic algorithm (GA), and mathematical algorithms involving the quadratic programming algorithm, based on the verification of the algorithms for driving and braking conditions. According to the optimization goal, the current development status of torque distribution algorithm is described, and the future development trend of the 4MIDEV torque distribution algorithm is prospected.
